Economy

The number one barrier to prosperity for individuals and growing businesses is access to capital, and the best capital to have access to is your own. That’s why I strongly support making the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent to keep more money in the pockets of hardworking Montanans.
As a member of the House Financial Services Committee and Small Business Committee, I’ve worked to expand access to capital for rural small businesses and ensure they have the tools they need to succeed.
I introduced the Federal Insurance Office Elimination Act to cut unnecessary red tape and eliminate duplicative federal bureaucracy. I also introduced the Expanding Access to Capital for Rural Job Creators Act, which requires the SEC’s Office of the Advocate for Small Business Capital Formation to identify and address capital access challenges faced by rural small businesses.
To further support family farms and small business owners, I’ve cosponsored the Death Tax Repeal Act, which would eliminate the burdensome estate tax. The so-called “death tax” unfairly penalizes families by taxing the transfer of property from one generation to the next, jeopardizing the future of Montana’s family farms and small businesses. If our communities are going to thrive, these businesses must be able to grow and stay in the family. I’ll continue to fight for policies that grow our rural economy, protect our family farms, and strengthen Montana’s small businesses.
