Downing Statement on Passage of Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act
Bill would impose sanctions on the ICC if it were to prosecute protected persons of the U.S. and its allies
Washington D.C.--Today, Congressman Troy Downing (MT-02) released a statement following House passage of H.R. 23, the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act.
The bill would impose sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) or any foreign actor who supports their effort to arrest, detain, or prosecute protected persons of the United States and its allies, including Prime Minister Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Gallant.
“Israel has a right to defend herself without fear of prosecution,” said Congressman Downing. “Neither the United States nor Israel are members of the ICC. Allowing a global body that neither nation recognizes to go after our citizens unchecked will not be tolerated. House Republicans are standing up to the ICC to uphold U.S. national sovereignty and put the interests of America and our allies first.”
