Downing Statement on Fish and Wildlife Proposed Rule Revising ESA Listing for Grizzly Bears
Washington, D.C.—Today, Congressman Troy Downing (MT-02) released a statement following the United States Fish and Wildlife Service’s (USFWS) issuance of its proposed rule revising the Endangered Species Act listing for grizzly bears.
The proposal designates a single Distinct Population Segment (DPS) for the lower 48 states, maintaining their threatened status across all recovery zones.
“I was very disappointed in today's proposed rule from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service revising the Endangered Species Act listing for grizzly bears,” said Congressman Downing. “I urge the incoming Trump Administration to trust the science and rescind this proposal before it is finalized. Montanans, especially our farmers and ranchers, are acutely aware of the harm that grizzly bears pose to communities around the state.”
