October 31, 2025

Congressman Troy Downing visited Ekalaka on October 23, making stops at Ekalaka Public Schools, the healthcare facility, and meeting with county officials.

Downing began his visit at Ekalaka Public Schools, where he met with sixth and seventh graders for a civics lesson and toured the school grounds. Student ambassadors Jaxen Walker and Eldon Morris led Downing and his wife on a tour of the school.

During the visit with sixth and seventh graders, students presented a book of questions and ideas for improving Montana and Montana schools. The students then had an opportunity to ask questions and hear from the congressman.

"Thank you all for welcoming me into your classroom to give a little civics lesson and tour the school grounds. You all have a bright future ahead of you!" Downing posted on social media following the visit.

Downing also met with high school staff and BARR Center staff, observing a training session.

Following his school visit, Downing traveled to the Carter County Healthcare Facility. There, he met with Dahl Memorial Healthcare Association CEO Darrell Messersmith and board members to discuss rural healthcare issues and toured the facility.

Downing concluded his day by meeting with the Carter County commissioners. He also stopped at the Wagon Wheel Cafe while in town.

The school shared their appreciation for the visit on social media, calling it an "Amazing Day" and noting that the representative's visit provided valuable educational opportunities for students and staff.
